Meet the driver at the cruise terminal of La Spezia and depart towards the Carrara marble valleys. These are the largest marble basins in the world that have been excavated since the Roman era. Here Michelangelo came for many times during his life for learning more about marble and for purchasing his favorite one for his masterpieces.
Learn more about both old and modern methods of excavation, about the geology of marble and (in workdays) watch the quarrymen at work. Breathtaking views and 2000 years of history and hard work.
Afterwards move into a marble workshop to learn more about “the making of a marble statue” by watching a marble artisan at work.
Around lunchtime end up in Colonnata, the oldest quarrymens village and home of a local delicacy. In alternative, we could move to the coastal towns like Lerici or in a wine farm in the countryside.
In the afternoon head back to La Spezia port.
