Meet the driver-guide at the cruise facility and depart to Carrara to visit the largest marble quarries in the world.

The ancient Romans started 2000 years ago, later, artists such as Michelangelo, Donatello, Bernini, Canova and many others, loved to use the Carrara marble for their works of art. Today quarrymen challenge every day “Mother Nature” in order to excavate from these steep and abrupt slopes such a unique stone, white and shining, still renowned all over the world.

The tour starts with the visit of a working quarry where, in the bright of imposing marble walls, you will learn more about ancient and modern techniques used for the excavation and transportation of marble. You will see (in work days) quarrymen cutting a “bancata”of marble, moving huge blocks and upload them on trucks. Get into the hearth of the mountains and visit the unbelievable tunnel quarry, entirely excavated into the marble mountain.
